This talk will discuss rock property data as it pertains to geomechanical analysis; sources of data, common pitfalls, and integration/calibration of logs and lab tests. The objective of the talk is to provide attendees with some insights into the value of specific rock property data in addressing the geomechanical issues at play in their reservoirs/wells. To do this we will discuss the topics of rock mechanical property fundamentals in geomechanical analysis, designing the geomechanical lab program that your team needs, QC of obtained or inherited rock property data, and calibration and integration of lab- and log-derived data.
Ken graduated with a BSc in geology from the University of British Columbia in 2001. His work in the industry has focused on geotechnical reservoir characterization, including nearly 8 years leading the establishment and development of Trican’s geomechanical laboratories in Calgary, Houston and Moscow. Ken’s current work is integrating and applying geomechanical and petrophysical data for borehole stability, hydraulic fracturing design, field development optimization, and cement sheath integrity. Ken has authored several industry and peer-reviewed papers on the subjects of geomechanics and petrophysics and is an active member of SPE, ARMA, CSPG, AAPG, and SPWLA.
The SPE would like to thank our sponsor.
