Drawdown is directly related to flow rate, yet it is common in industry to ignore drawdown when making conclusions about well performance. One area where this is particularly prevalent is the practice of ranking of wells based on short-term production metrics.
This presentation summarizes a statistical analysis that was performed on a set of 290 Eagleford oil wells. The objective was to quantify the impact that ignoring drawdown has on well ranking, and explore alternative methods for ranking well performance. A series of data driven techniques were used to definitively answer the key questions. The workflow and application of these techniques will be explained.
Dylan Lougheed is a professional engineer with 11 years combined experience in high tech and oil and gas industries. He has been involved in the development and application of modern well test and production data analysis techniques, with a focus on unconventional asset evaluation. Dylan has authored two SPE technical papers on unconventional reservoir analysis, and is co-author on a third. His current position is Product Director for Reservoir Engineering Solutions at IHS, where he sets the direction for IHS Engineering Solutions. Dylan holds a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering and biology from Queen’s University and a master’s degree in business administration from University of Calgary.
