This presentation will review Ryder Scott’s approach to identifying value using the Spotfire analytics platform. Jean will show the power of using this analytics tool to quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively analyze the value in an asset block and to identify which parts of the block held the key to future growth. Traditionally, in order to evaluate an asset sales package, for example, one would have the evaluator’s database plus access to several public data sources. Having multiple data sets in multiple formats was often a struggle to synthesize useful information. Indeed, just the information volume in the evaluator’s database can be challenging to assess.
Jean will demonstrate how a reserves evaluation engineer using Spotfire’s visualization and analytics abilities can tease out key technical performance outcomes on new plays from public databases. Production history from public data sources is important because a reserves database may not capture all production and injection data. Using publically available information in concert with detailed information in a proprietary reserves database can reveal materially new knowledge for a client. The Spotfire template that Ryder Scott has constructed assists in workflow creation and that it has built-in ability and flexibility for project customization and quicker turnarounds.
Jean will also identify how Spotfire reduced the work time compared to a more traditional spreadsheet analysis — from receipt of the reserves database and well list to the program’s output consisting of a high-level overview of the asset package and analysis of key (material) assets.
Jean Liu Halfe is a Vice President, Project Coordinator at Ryder Scott in Calgary. Jean has been with Ryder Scott since 2002 in positions of increasing responsibility. Jean holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering and an MBA. Post MBA, Jean worked as Deputy Executive Director for the Partnership Society developing and coordinating international development projects. Jean has years of experience in conducting reservoir and economic evaluations. At Ryder Scott, Jean has expanded her experience with reservoir studies and reserve determinations around the world and here in Canada. This included evaluation or audit of LNG projects, deepwater development projects, large scale waterfloods, EOR projects, as well as large scale shale oil and tight gas projects.
